On a recent delightfully warm summer evening, I served a guest dinner outdoors in the woods in my back yard

I strung multicolored lights (from Target’s summer outdoor decor section) in the trees

The lights were shaped like lanterns, fairy lanterns..

I set the table with antique amethyst dinnerware, a chocolate-and-blue satin tablecloth, and vintage blue goblets

A couple of blue lanterns lit the meal with soft candlelight

The table awaited my guest, the air perfumed with lemon verbena incense, dinner keeping warm on the stove, wine ready to be poured

LOVELY TV: Mad Fashion

Designer Chris March, who got famous on Project Runway, has a new TV show. Premiering October 4, it follows Chris as he designs madcap fashions for celebrities. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with, and I hope the show uses something other than manufactured drama to sustain interest. I could go for long, lingering extensive closeups of his dresses, for example!
